St Jean d'Aulps

St Jean d'Aulps, in the past has always been ignored as a drive through town, with an insignificant ski resort compared to Morzine, but St Jean has a lot to offer families or people looking to make a permanent move to the area. Just 7 kms to Morzine, it is also just a 20 minute drive to Thonon. St Jean is a real village which functions all year round. There are a couple of ski shops, 2 bars, 2 restaurants, a mini supermarket, pharmacy, banks, paper shop, bakers, butchers and cheese shop. The big supermarket 'Carrefour' is also just a 2 minute drive away. For people with children looking to move to the area, the valley's 'collège' or secondary school which all the children of the valley attend is situated here. There is also a great pre school and primary school. The resort of La Grande Terche sits above the village and has just enough runs to make for a good weeks skiing for intermediates and beginners or for a good couple of days break from the crowds found in the larger resorts of Morzine and Avoriaz. The resort is covered by the Portes du Soleil ski pass, although not physically connected. You can pick up a great ski apartment in La Grand Terche at a fraction of the cost of apartments in Morzine and otherwise there is a great selection of farms and chalets to choose from in the village on the hill sides surrounded the village.
