Chatel is the 'capital' of the Abondance valley. It is similar in size to the town of Morzine and sits just on the other side of Avoriaz from Morzine. It is a buzzing hub of shops and restaurants during the winter months, with a free ski bus service which connects all the surrounding hamlets with the main cable car situated right in the centre of the village and the other ski lifts of Pré-La-Joux and Petit chatel. The lifts give you direct access to the Swiss side of the Portes du Soleil or the French side through Avoriaz, making Chatel a great starting point for a days skiing. There has been loads of building in Chatel in the past 10 years meaning that there is a great choice of new chalets as well as the more traditional farms. The farms here are fabulous with a real Swiss influence. The border with Switzerland is of course situated just at the outskirts of the town at the Pas de Morgins.
In summer there are loads of activities and events around the lac de Vonnes and of course the lifts are running for bikers and walkers. The transfer time to Chatel is slightly longer from Geneva than to Morzine (around an hour and a half) but offers the same variety of services and activities.
